Never Have to Replace an Exhaust Gasket Ever Again !

Do most Bike MOT tester worry that much about a small leak from an exhaust joint ?

I didn't use any paste on mine and It's been through 2 MOT's.

I looked at the temperature issue when I thought about alternative gaskets.

The material use in the gaskets melts at around 6800C.

Some High performance, high revving (turbo ?) engines have exhaust header pipes that glow cherry red which is around 750 0C. The XL1000 Exhaust should not be getting anywhere near this and the headers are relatively exposed and in a good airflow when the engine is working hard.

The aluminium cylinder head on the Vara would probably start to melt around 7000C.

Hey Stuart
Are you still making these gaskets?
I am just about to replace the cans on mine, so now is a good time to replace all the gaskets I guess, and your bronze inventions sound ideal

Cheers

If your putting on after market cans you may find that you doon't need them. Most aftermarket cans go metal to metal with a little exhaust paste.
The one behind the rear pot may be worth a look.

I need to turn the ends down and cut a spiral slot in a set.

It's a bit frantic at work this week but I'll try and get them done before Friday.

Clamps =?3.50 each

Bronze Gaskets = ?6.00 each

I'm not aware of any changes to the parts fitted on late models so the problem still exists (not just on Vara's).

I could send the to Aus but I think the postage may make it a costly exercise.

I've sent you a PM with details which should allow you to buy them locally.

hey another happy vara owner with SB brilliant home made gaskets thanks again for this mate

dave2lollies

Am new here, just got a very smart, 3000ml 2009 vara which is brilliant, but, just  noticed a feint popping on the overrun, and also that one of the exhaust clamps has rotted right through! Have managed to source the vw clamps, as recommended elsewhere but was wondering could I place an order with mr Barker for a set of his exhaust gaskets?  Thanks

Hi there,

I'm new here, I have had my vara for over two years and it's that time again to replace the gaskets, can I to order a set from Mr Barker. That's if your still selling these. Could you let me know how to sent payment.
